Why brazing in a vacuum furnace

A vacuum furnace ensures that the melting temperature is reached with great precision and without overshoot. Note also that the oxidation and corrosion resistance of the alloy itself becomes negligible in a vacuum furnace.

For brazing to be successful, the filler must melt at its specific melting temperature and not at a higher temperature (either in paste or wire, or strip form). This mainly avoids that the liquid is at a temperature where its surface tension is lower and therefore wets a larger surface area, resulting in a lack of proper filling of the joint. The liquid must diffuse precisely within the joint cavity between the metals, forming an intermediate layer.

Capillary action ensures that the alloy penetrates the joint space in a liquid state. These are produced through machining, exactly where the joint is needed. Machining is required to obtain the correct tolerances for the joint elements and the exact bed dimensions for the bond must be determined. Gaps must be created to avoid overly tight tolerances, in which case the bonding may be difficult to fill and, at the other end of the spectrum, may result in weaker gaps or porosity due to excessive tolerances. The alloy is pulled into the interior of the surface to be joined at the wetting temperature, resisting gravity.

The alloy needs its melting temperature to be far from the melting temperature of the metal to be joined, but at the same time to have mechanical properties suitable for the joint. In addition, to achieve a perfect brazed joint, the joining surface must be clean and free of traces of process oil or grease to have good wettability.

Brazing in a vacuum furnace is simple and easy. Due to the nature of the vacuum, the heat is evenly distributed and the parts are produced consistently. But let's look at the specific features of brazing vacuum furnaces in more detail.

High Temperature Vacuum Furnace

High Temperature Vacuum Furnace

This high temperature Vacuum Furnace is cost-effective. Max. vacuum 7×10-4Pa. Excellent uniformity, precise control for vacuum sintering, brazing, and hardening, etc. It is used for ceramic materials, ceramic-metal composites, refractory metals, and alloy materials, as well as vacuum brazing of alloy tools and superhard materials.
